Can you install 29er MTB tires on 700c wheels? I did so on my Hyper Urban, with mixed results. I recently installed a set of 29 inch by 2 inch Bontrager mountain bike tires on a set of 700c wheels I found in the back of my shed.
I had mixed results with the tires. They went on the wheels with no problems at all. So, I installed the wheels on my Hyper Urban. They fit really well on the back, but up front there was barely any clearance in the fork.
I have not decided if I want to get a set of lower profile 29er tires, or a set of 35 or 38 millimeter 700c tires. Either way, I'm calling the experiment a qualified success.
