Lakki Marwat, a southern district of Pakistan’s northeastern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, is in the grip of severe unrest these days. Pakistani Taliban groups are carrying out att@-acks here on a daily basis. On Friday, a police vehicle was t@rgeted in an att@-ack, resulting in the loss of life of 7 police personnel including the SHO. Against this incident, police officials from Lakki Marwat district, along with peace lashkars and ordinary people, started a protest on the call of the Police Peace Committee. The protesters blocked the entrance and exit routes of Lakki Marwat, i.e. main highways such as Lakki Bannu Road, Lakki Dera Ismail Khan Road, Lakki Mianwali Punjab Road, Lakki Tank Road and Indus Highway for traffic. According to local sources, the protesting police officers express doubts about the security forces’ operations against the militants and are demanding that the Lakki Marwat police be provided with armored vehicles, bulletproof and bombproof vehicles, modern weapons and night vision goggles so that they can confront the Pakistani Taliban groups. The current situation is extremely worrying for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and provincial police as well as the federal government, the Ministry of Interior and the military establishment.
