Stanley Myers’ Cavatina for the movie “Deer Hunter” is heavenly, and the guitar arrangement for John Williams is exquisite. I recomposed it for self-accompanied cello, while transposing it from its original E major to G major, to better use my cello’s natural sound. I have by now given up hopes that people would recognize original tunes in these recompositions. I think I’ll let these recompositions stand on their own feet going forward. The original tune and/or chord progression can be thought of as Easter eggs instead. See if you can spot them hidden in this piece.

About Project Bach Wrote What:
There is a lack of unaccompanied cello solo music in today’s world. Newbie cellists continue to ask for modern and familiar music they can play without an orchestra, an ensemble, or a pianist friend. These cries go unanswered.
While plenty theoretical work may have been written, they don’t appeal to today’s kids. While other great unaccompanied cello music such as Julie-O by Mark Summer exist, most are far too advanced for beginner and intermediate cellists. Surely there are more out there. Or is there? Won’t someone write new music, or rearrange familiar songs for solo cellists?
Thus Project Bach Wrote What?!
Let's collect and showcase self-accompanied & modern cello music for the rest of us.
