Through books we will read, projects that we will do, and discussions that we will have, you and I will travel to Africa. We will have a glimpse of how Africa looks, beyond the Safari. We will get an earful of how Africans think, beyond the 15 seconds of news clips on CNN. We will have a taste of what Africans eat, authentic jollof rice cooked with firewood in cast-iron pots. We will smell the African air, unpolluted by burning gasoline and leaking ozone layers. The newly minted sunrays that land daily across Africa will touch our thirsty skins.
Yes, that is what literature does. It takes us to places our feet may not take us at the moment.
