I am forever ending up getting my RDLR guard almost passed to something which I think was referred to a 1/4 guard in some of the videos last week (basically they are halfway through a knee cut pass, but I have their foot trapped still. Their trapped knee is on the floor by my hip. They are not straddling me in 3/4 mount). I would assume that it would be fairly easy for them to complete the pass from here (Ostap's videos on preventing the knee cut pass 3 here • Ostap Manastyrski - Guard Retention 101: D... seems to suggest the key to finishing it is to control my bottom arm to rotate my to my back while sliding the knee down my thigh awy from me) but for some reason I seem to hang on for dear life a lot and eventually get cross collar choked.
Is there anything that can be done once you're at the stage of hanging onto their foot for dear life, and they are starting to sink in grips for the choke? I'm thinking abandoning the foot to try and turtle a la the Ostap video but haven't had a chance to try it out yet, and I'm not sure of the implications if they have already sunk choke grips. Or is this position already fully Osiander-d?
Moving back, what are the keys to maintaining RDLR to stop them getting the knee to the floor? I'm probably guilty of trying to hang out in RDLR too long because I have a very lazy closed guard based game that leaks into other guards where proactivity is key. Getting my bottom arm under my RDLR hooking thigh seems to just delay things, and I struggle to use my free foot effectively to keep space. Not sure how best to use the top arm.
