Your pepper plants will survive until next year if you do THESE things! Peppers are actually perennial plants, but the problem is that most of the climates we have here in America don’t support their survival through the winter season. But if we could show you how to overwinter them correctly, you can save your plants until next year and have a BIG head start on next year’s abundant pepper harvest! You will first need to pick the rest of the peppers that are on the plant. Harvest them all, even the smallest ones. Then you’ll do some heavy pruning. There are bumps on the stems called nodes, and Dan will show you where exactly to prune your pepper plant based on the location of the nodes. After it’s pruned way down, you will place it in a pot, add some topsoil to the level of where the ground came to previously on the plant, and add some fertilizer and minerals. The important thing is to nourish the roots with what you add, while not adding anything that would encourage leaf growth. We’ll place our pruned pepper plants in a specific temperature range, and then in the spring we’ll teach you what to look for in the weather for the perfect time to replant them in your garden. And then next spring you’ll have all that growth as a head start toward a new year of pepper harvest!
Welcome to Joyful Homestead! We're Dan and Heidi, and it's our passion to live as independently as we can on our land, grow and preserve much of our own food, raise productive chickens, and make our own items from nature such as teas and salves that enhance our health. Our second passion is to teach people what we've learned in each of these categories! Come learn along with us!
