Can you smoke a pork butt in HALF the time without losing flavor? I cut my pork butt into chunks and tested Smokin’ Pecan wood pellets on my pellet grill for pulled pork AND deli-style sliced pork.

Instead of smoking a whole pork butt, I cut it into 4–5 large chunks. Why?
✔️ More surface area for smoke
✔️ Faster cook time
✔️ Better bark development
✔️ Two different end results
I smoked:
4 chunks for classic pulled pork
1 chunk specifically for deli-thin sliced pork butt
This method not only reduced the total cook time nearly in half, but the Smokin’ Pecan pellets delivered a bold, rich smoke flavor that really stood out compared to typical pellet blends.
If you use a pellet grill and want stronger smoke flavor without switching to an offset smoker, this might be your move.
