In this video, I FLY FISH from my FLOAT TUBE at Sibbald Meadow Pond one hour west of Calgary, Alberta in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. This is a small pond that is stocked annually with Rainbow Trout.
It is an interesting pond for a couple of reasons. It has picturesque views that are easy on the eye. There are the resident Osprey who dive bomb for trout and seem to catch more fish than I do. These waters are also quite fertile and support lots of feed for the fish including Damsel Flies, Leeches, and Chironomids.
My equipment including a 5-6 Wt Sage rod, floating line and a 9ft tapered leader, a Thing-a-Bob strike indicator, and a Leech pattern with a Chironomid pattern dropper tied on to it, both of which I tied up for myself.
The fish in the thumbnail was caught by my daughter on a family fishing trip to Sibbald Meadow Pond and it was about 3 pds! It was big enough for me to fillet and smoke it. The Alberta government released some broad stock in the pond that year and we caught one. I wish that I had gotten that one on video. The story of how this fish was caught is a "Fishin Tale" for another day!
