Researchers at the University of Dayton are testing soft piezoelectric composites that show great promise as next-generation energy harvesting materials. Piezoelectric materials can convert untapped mechanical vibrations into electrical energy. Generating electricity from soft, stretchable materials would allow power generation from the movement of all kinds of objects, including our clothing. The research could provide a blueprint for designing and optimizing next-generation self-powered electronics.
