This is a video in which I play jazz on three different Telecasters, but not at the same time.
The song is Frank Loesser’s “I’ve Never Been in Love Before.”
About the test: I’m playing through my Line6 HX Stomp jazz patch. It’s a Twin Reverb set to be mostly flat. There is a little bit of spring reverb in the patch, but other than that it’s just an amp and cab, no other effects. The only thing done in post was bringing up the level of the single coil guitar. All guitars are strung with Elixir Nanoweb 9-42. They are all partscasters- none of them are Fender bodies and only one neck is a Fender neck. For all guitars the volume is around 9 and the tone is around 8.
About the guitars:
Red- The body is swamp ash. It has a Mojotone mini-humbucker in the neck. It has a Squier neck that used to be on the pink guitar. I mostly use this one for Ted Greene style drop tuned solo guitar.
Brown- The body is walnut. It has a Seymour Duncan Vintage ‘54 in the neck. It has a Fender neck that used to be on the red guitar.
Pink- The body is poplar. It has a Tonerider Alnico IV in the neck. It has a Warmoth neck that used to be on the brown guitar.
“Why did you swap all the necks?”
My favorite necks are on the guitars I play the most. The brown tele is my #1 for almost anything non-jazz and has the most gig hours, so it gets my favorite neck. The pink one comes second. I don’t get to play the red one as often, but I hope to get a nice neck for it one day. It’s probably my favorite for this kind of stuff. I think it has the clarity of the single but the thickness of the humbucker.
