Lets Ride: The Derwent Valley Line, A Stunning Autumnal Journey Through The Derbyshire Countryside.

Описание: Welcome to a new series I will be doing on my channel called Let's Ride. Where I will be traveling on different train and bus routes across the UK. We begin with a branch line I have wanted to do for quite a while now, The Derwent Valley Line which sees trains between Nottingham/Derby and Matlock. Ambergate Junction marks the start of the branch line off the Midland Main Line.

I travelled from Matlock the terminus of the line to Ambergate which lies just short of the junction with the Midland Main Line. You will usually find Class 170 Turbostars (my favourite trains by the way) but the odd Class 158 does run too on the line. The Class 170s have excellent comfy seating, and are pleasant to ride on, note this one had ex London Midland seating. Matlock is the terminus for National Rail trains but in the past you could get all way to Manchester via Bakewell and Buxton. Today Peak Rail provide heritage services up to Rowsley. You will find buses outside the station connecting with the Peak District hotspot of Bakewell, and other parts of the National Park.

The journey from Matlock down to Ambergate makes three intermediate stops at Matlock Bath which is a very popular spot and home to the Heights of Abraham where you can get a cable car up to the cliffs which overlook this impressive area, it even passes over the railway too. You pass under the Heights of Abraham via High Tor tunnel. Willersley tunnel is another notable tunnel and at the southern portal you immediately find yourself at the quaint little station of Cromford, which was made famous as a cover for one of Oasis's albums (some might say) you will also find the World Heritage Site Derwent Valley Mills a short walk away. Whatstandwell is one of the smaller stations on the line, and a brilliant named station indeed, a short walk from the Cromford Canal. Ambergate marks the end of the branch line section of the Derwent Valley Line and here the train joins the Midland Main Line with calls at Belper and Duffield before reaching Derby, most trains now continue to Nottingham.
