This is a Carcano Rifle Model 41 (Fucile Modello 41) that is chambered in 6.5×52mm Carcano. Its also known as the M91/41, a variant of the Model 1891 Rifle. The barrel is 27.2 inches long with an overall rifle length of 46 inches. It has a six round box magazine that takes the en bloc loading clips. The adjustable rear sight is designed for elevation adjustments out to 1,000 m (1,100 yd). The progressive rifling found in the earlier rifles was replaced in the Model 41 with conventional rifling. About 600,000 Model 91/41 rifles were made before Italy's surrender in September 1943, but others were made while fighting with the German Forces against Allied Forces up until the end of April 1945.
This rifle is often called "Mannlicher−Carcano", however; the action itself has nothing to do with the "Mannlicher" title, but was called this because of the en bloc loading clips system. The Carcano action is actually a modified Gewehr 88 action. The Gewehr 88 is a Mauser Model 1871 action that incorporates the Mannlicher en bloc loading system. Ferdinand Ritter von Mannlicher was an Austrian engineer credited for inventing the en-bloc clip charger-loading box magazine system.
