Описание: The Indian Air Force (IAF) is holding a farewell ceremony for its iconic MiG-21 fighter jets after 62 years of distinguished service. These jets were pivotal in numerous conflicts, including the 1971 war, the 1999 Kargil War, and the 2019 post-Balakot operations. Their legacy is significant, as noted in the observation that after the Balakot strikes "the F-16 of Pakistan was shot down and these are only few memorable events and there are uncountable such operations that have been taken on by MiG-21s". The retirement brings the IAF's fighter squadron strength down to 29, its lowest against a sanctioned strength of 42. To address this shortfall, the force is fast-tracking the induction of the indigenous Tejas Mark 1A. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is expected to deliver the first aircraft this year, despite delays caused by engine supply disruptions. An additional 97 Tejas jets are slated for delivery starting 2027-28 to modernize the IAF's fleet.
