Join psychologist and ACT trainer Rikke Kjelgaard as she talks to Jennifer Kemp for cocktails and courageous conversations at this live webinar about ACT for perfectionism.
As therapists we are motivated to help. We care deeply about our clients and want them to succeed. As a result, we put ourselves under enormous pressure to do our “best” therapy, helping every client in every session. Yet driving this is fear - that we might fail and let our clients down. After all, the stakes are high. Criticising ourselves functions as a way of keeping ourselves in line, focused on doing our best work, and hopefully preventing any missteps along the way. In this webinar we will explore how perfectionism and self-criticism can interfere with both therapy and the therapist and share our own stories of missteps and self-criticism. Somehow, we need to unhook from perfectionistic habits to deliver ‘imperfect’ yet effective therapy that helps our clients, communities - and also ourselves.
Jennifer Kemp is a Clinical Psychologist who lives and works in Adelaide, Australia with her husband, kids, and dog, Scooter. She tries to balance spending time with her family with seeing clients, writing, presenting, and providing consultations to professionals seeking to deepen their therapeutic practice and application of ACT. (Even though she loves doing all these things it just never feels balanced.) Jennifer sees clients struggling with perfectionism, self-criticism, body image problems, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), eating disorders, weight management, and chronic illness amongst other things ♥️
In December 2021, Jennifer will launch “The ACT Workbook for Perfectionism” for New Harbinger Publications. This is her first book, and she hopes to write more. She has presented on the topic of perfectionism and self-criticism at the last three ACBS World Conferences and twice for the International OCD Foundation and Australian Psychological Society.
This is a webinar in the "Cocktails & Courageous conversations" series where we talk informally about things that matter.
