Another adventure with Tim, we set out and completed the Black Hills pay dirt - bike packing. Each bike weigh approx. 60lbs. There were a couple of speed bumps, a blown derailleur on Tim's bike found us bombing down into Sturgus on the highway. I was trying to break forty, which was sketchy and rad at the same time. The guys at Xtreme Dakota Bicycles hooked us up, back on the trail. Climbing to Lead was massive but not all that bad and the view were incredible. It was a cruse once we hit the Mickelson trail, that 2% railroad grade was so sweet, 15 miles at nearly 15 mph on fully loaded fattys! That's what I'm talking about! A couple of nights of thunderstorms always makes the sleeping in the hammock at bit more comfortable. Easy street until the Deerfield Trail. The creek was very high as you can see in the early photo, the later photos don't exist because navigating 60lb bikes in narrow swift moving water filled with sweepers requires you attention to get out with you and the bike, which we did. As we came out the other end soaking wet pushing now 90lbs bikes, a local fisherman looked at us a bit bewildered and asks "did you really just come from the other end? You now all the bridges all just got washed out?" To which we replied, "We do now." A short ride back to the Jeep was the saving grace to keep us from hypothermia. An hour later we were eating monster steaks at Outback with an old friend (Spoons). Another rad trip in the books.
