I started the day dreaming of a sunny Maui beach… and was brought back to reality by force-6 winds and nonstop rain. I ended up stuck in my tent in Greetsiel harbor for almost two days.
When the forecast finally promised a short break in the wind, I pushed off toward the Greetsiel lock — 8 km in freezing rain and force 5–6 headwinds. After landing before the dyke , I checked the sea side: wind force 6–7, whitecaps, and a strong ebb tide that would have sucked me straight out. So I waited.
Eventually I went for the next leg across the Ley Bight toward Norddeich — about 13 km against the incoming water. I was too early for the flood tide and got stranded in the mudflats for two hours… before racing the tide to reach shelter at Norddeich village.
