"The Al-Quds or Palestine Day is an international day that we observe every year. But this year, we are observing it as both Palestine Day and Iran Day because of the situation in Iran - our Supreme Leader was martyred; he was the only hope for Palestinians and was the saviour of the oppressed. The Palestinians had nobody else."

STORYLINE:
Hundreds of Shiite Muslim protesters took to the streets of Magam in Indian-controlled Kashmir on Friday to rally against US and Israeli strikes on Iran and the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Protesters waved Iranian and Palestinian flags and denounced the killing of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the strikes.

The demonstration was held in observance of 'Jerusalem Day', also known as Al-Quds Day.

Protesters burned effigies of US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and chanted slogans against the two countries.

Syed Rizvi, Muslim protester said that people all over the world are marching "in solidarity with the oppressed, sending a message to America and Israel that those who have taken to the streets are fighting against oppression and for their rights, and they will continue to fight for their rights until death."

Al-Quds Day falls on the last Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and was declared by the late Iranian spiritual leader, Ayatollah Khomeini, as an international day of struggle against Israel and for the liberation of Jerusalem.

Al-Quds is the Arabic name for Jerusalem, home to the Al-Aqsa mosque, considered one of Islam's holiest sites.
