STORYLINE:
Dozens of Pakistanis demonstrated in Islamabad on Friday against a 10 (m) million dollar US bounty put on Hafiz Mohammad Saeed, the founder of the militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Saeed has been accused of orchestrating the 2008 attacks in the Indian city of Mumbai that killed 166 people, including six American citizens. He operates openly in Pakistan, giving public speeches and appearing on television talk shows.
In the north-eastern city of Peshawar dozens also demonstrated against the bounty and they called on the suspension of NATO supply lines from Pakistan to Afghanistan not to be lifted.
Islamabad closed its borders to the supplies in November in retaliation for American airstrikes that accidentally killed 24 Pakistani soldiers.
Saeed has given speeches against resuming the supply line, an issue under discussion in parliament.
The US said it issued the bounty for information leading to Saeed's arrest and conviction in response to his increasingly "brazen" appearances.
The bounty marked a shift in the long-standing U.S. calculation that going after the leadership of an organisation used as a proxy by the Pakistani military against archenemy India would cause too much friction with the Pakistani government.
This shift has occurred as the U.S.-Pakistani relationship has steadily deteriorated over the last year, and as the perception of Lashkar-e-Taiba's potential threat to the West has increased.
