The Brief
Build a plank dulcimer based on the plans in this excellent article by Shane Speal:

Contest Rules

1. Your completed dulcimer must be no larger than 1x4x24 (inches)

Your dulcimer can be made of any wood you choose. I am building my prototype from pine, but my contest entry will not be.

2. Your dulcimer must have:
3 strings
A fretboard
A nut
A bridge
A tailpiece
It must be fretted and tuned

The finish is up to you, as beautiful or eccentric as you choose.

3. Your dulcimer may be a solid body, a hollow body or a chambered body.

4. It must be an acoustic instrument, NO ELECTRONICS.

5 You may use commercial strings, but you must make your tuning pegs. Either carved, or other random hardware, no machine heads.

Video Reveals must show your completed plank dulcimer, strum a few times so we can hear it or learn a tune and play it. Any pics or video of construction is great.

Entries must be received no later than January 31, 2026 at 11:59 pm for your time zone.

Suggested string gauges are as follows Melody .012, Middle .014, Bass. 024. I am using fishing line.
