http://www.ApogeeRockets.com - There are many ways to make a shock cord mount. What you'll see in this video are three ways. They happen to be the ones that I use most often for low and mid-power model rockets.
The purpose of the shock cord is to keep the rocket coming down in one piece, so you don't have to retrieve multiple parts. The "anchor" is where the cord attaches to the rocket. The most important thing is that the anchor is strong enough to resist tear-out from the rocket. Should the anchor fail, the rocket will separate into multiple pieces, and one of them is probably going to come down really hard.
