Learning to surf at 5 years old, Garcia entered surf contests from his early teen years. Fueled with a passion for surfing, Garcia debuted in professional surfing at age 16, and finished in the 17th position the following year. By 1990, he was in the top 10 rankings. Amongst his many surfing achievements, he was named as the 2000 ASP WCT World Champion.
Garcia is the most victorious surfer in Hawaii with 22 WQS events wins and six Triple Crown titles – more than any other surfer in history. He is also one of surfing’s most photographed and filmed surfers, with appearances in more than 75 surf movies and videos.
Garcia was inducted into the Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame in 2015 as a World Champion.
