Attention land managers, facility and ground supervisors, and municipal planners
There is a need to educate managers of public open spaces about sustainable techniques to manage forests for habitat, while meeting other goals, such as timber management, tree regeneration, and recreation.
For this session of Shop Talk, we invited Ron Rohrbaugh, the Director of Conservation Science and Forest Programs at Audubon Mid-Atlantic to present on forest management practices in woodlots and large forest tracts that improve habitat for forest birds, while also meeting goals of multiple stakeholder groups.
Our learning objectives for this session are:
1. Learn about the status and habitat needs of forest-dwelling birds
2. Gain a better understanding of how to evaluate forest health and habitat quality at various scales
3. Identify forest management practices that produce desired habitat conditions
4. Discuss how to plan for challenges, such as deer over-browsing and invasive plant species
