High-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) is one of the most common types of ovarian cancer, and homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) is a biomarker of response to platinum-based chemotherapy and PARP inhibition. In this interview, Marcia Hall, MBBS, PhD, FRCP, Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, Northwood, UK, shares a novel identification of biomarkers of response to therapy using circulating tumor cells. RAD51 foci in cancer-associated circulating cells are associated with treatment outcomes in patients with high-grade serous ovarian cancer, with increased RAD51 foci at baseline associating with poorer progression-free survival.
