Rara Lake, often called the “Queen of Lakes,” is the largest and one of the most beautiful lakes in Nepal. Located in the remote Mugu district at an altitude of about 2,990 meters, it is surrounded by Rara National Park, rich in diverse flora, fauna, and breathtaking mountain scenery. The crystal-clear blue waters of the lake, with snow-capped peaks in the background, make it a true natural wonder and a peaceful escape from the busy world.
We completed our Rara Lake trip in 4 nights and 5 days from Pokhara in a Scorpio. The overall road condition was quite good — about 60% pitched road and 40% off-road terrain, giving us both comfort and adventure. Hotels and lodges were easily available along the route.
Our travel itinerary was as follows:
Day 1: Pokhara → Surkhet
Day 2: Surkhet → Gothijula
Day 3: Gothijula → Rara Lake → Nagma
Day 4: Nagma → Kohalpur
Day 5: Kohalpur → Pokhara
The journey was long but incredibly scenic — passing through lush hills, winding mountain roads, small villages, and serene landscapes. The view of Rara Lake at sunrise and sunset made the entire trip worthwhile
