In this video, I explore the history behind the iconic golden equestrian statue of King William III—known locally as King Billy—in Hull, East Yorkshire. I explain why the statue stands in such a prominent place, despite William originally attempting to land in Hull before ending up in Devon. Invited by English nobles to replace the Catholic King James II, William's arrival in 1688 sparked the Glorious Revolution and reshaped British history.
Armed with my Olympus OM-D EM1 Mark II and a 45mm f/1.8 prime lens, I try to capture the statue from different angles, discussing the challenges of shooting urban landmarks in natural light. The Micro Four Thirds setup offers great sharpness and compactness—perfect for street photography.
I also take the opportunity to photograph Hull Minster, another of the city's historic gems, capturing its intricate architecture with the same setup.
