Italy, like other European countries, has universal healthcare. What some Americans would call socialized healthcare/medicine. I admit, when I first moved to Italy from the United States 20 years ago, I knew nothing about the healthcare system in Italy.
In Europe access to healthcare is considered a human right, along with education. No one is discriminated against based on ability to pay. Healthcare is a human right, not a luxury.
