Jeep Overlanding the Yooper Adventure Trail | Michigan’s Upper Peninsula (Part 1)

Описание: After a long haul from Eastern Kentucky, we rolled across the mighty Mackinac Bridge under the cover of darkness and set up camp on the shores of Lake Michigan. With just a few hours of sleep, we kicked off the morning exploring one of Michigan’s gems — Tahquamenon Falls, both the Upper and Lower falls.

From there, we headed north to Whitefish Point, where the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum and historic lighthouse gave us a sobering glimpse into the power of Lake Superior.

Then it was time to officially hit the Yooper Adventure Trail (YAT) — a 251-mile overland route that cuts across the heart of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The trail offers everything from smooth sandy shoreline tracks and bone-shaking washboards, to massive water holes, historic lighthouses, and even a drive-through sculpture park.

⚠️ A few tips if you plan your own run:

GPX files for the YAT are available in the Mitten State Tours Facebook group (the admins there are super helpful).
Fuel stops are spaced out. - (We were fine, but our jeep loves fuel)
Be ready for deep sand, unpredictable mud, and suspension-testing terrain.

On our first day we only hit one obstacle that forced a reroute — not bad for such a wild stretch of trail.
