❄ Boomerang Nebula – The Coldest Place in the Universe
Type: Protoplanetary nebula (transition stage from a dying star to a planetary nebula)
Location: Constellation Centaurus, about 5,000 light-years from Earth
Temperature: Just 1 Kelvin (–272.15 °C / –458 °F), making it the coldest natural place known — even colder than the cosmic microwave background (~2.7 K)
Reason for Extreme Cold: Gas is expanding at incredible speeds (hundreds of km/s), causing extreme adiabatic cooling
