Venice: 118 islands, zero cars, and a city sinking into the Adriatic that now charges admission like a theme park.

Whittier: An entire Alaskan town of 220 people living in one Cold War military building, connected by tunnels because the wind outside can literally knock you over.

Coober Pedy: An Australian outback town that moved underground to escape 50°C heat. No air conditioning needed when your house is carved into rock.

Dungeness: A flat, treeless desert in England with nuclear reactors, abandoned fishing boats, and artists who moved in because nowhere else looks like this.

Monaco: An entire country smaller than Central Park where a parking space sold for $560,000 and one in three residents is a millionaire.

Reykjavik: A capital city heated by volcanoes, where the sidewalks melt their own snow and beer was illegal until 1989.
