The International version of Heroes' Paradise added five new Side Jobs. While some of them are kind of amusing, I mostly find them to be insipid; they feel rough and out-of-place, much like the rest of the HP-exclusive content. While there is already footage of the jobs online, I wanted to bundle them together for easy documentation.
Signaling (0:00)
Signaling is easy and straightforward. While it's a little strict, it's not too hard to get a Gold medal.
Sign Spinning (2:56)
This job is shallow and annoying. Needless to say, shaking the controller is not very fun or reliable, and it took a few tries to get a Gold medal. Here's a clip showing what happens if you overload the sign: • NMH: Heroes' Paradise (PS3) - Burger Sign ...
Kitty Race (5:44)
While it's pretty cute, Kitty Race is also rather mindless. You don't need much strategy beyond alternating between the buttons almost randomly.
Bust A Coconut (7:54)
The most annoying job of the bunch, it took me nearly a dozen tries to get the Gold medal. If you miss a single coconut, not only do you have to wait for Travis to recover, the speed of the coconuts resets, meaning that it's almost impossible to get a Gold medal if you miss just one. At least the Job Center manager has some good lines...
People Bowling (10:21)
Without a doubt, this is the most laughable and out-of-place job in the game. The physics are mindbogglingly bad; this was my only attempt (not having touched it in months), and you can tell how confused I was with the first bunch of people. While I thought about recording a smoother attempt, I decided to keep this one as a testament to how hilariously wonky it is.
A few other points to note:
As mentioned before, this is the International release of Heroes' Paradise, so the original PS3/360 JP version does not have these Side Jobs. Red Zone, being INTL HP ported back to Japan, does have this content.
Unlike Wii, you can jump straight to the missions, but only after you've completed them once beforehand. This feature was not present in the original JP HP version, either.
Unlike Wii, if you fail a mission, you can retry it immediately (which you can see in the extra clip for Sign Spinning). There are a few other differences across the board when it comes to restarting missions, which I plan on showing in a later video.
Getting a Silver medal in a Side Job will unlock a new Assassination Gig, and getting a Gold medal will unlock a new Free Fight Mission.
There are new Assassination Gigs along with the new Side Jobs: • No More Heroes Version Differences - Hero...
While HP didn't necessarily add new Free Fight Missions, they had to move them from the north city, so there are some changes: • No More Heroes Version Differences - Free ...
In case you're wondering about the weird screen tearing and frame drops all over the place, that's not my capture card malfunctioning; that's all from the game.
Here's an album of the descriptions of every Side Job (including the ones carried over from Wii): https://imgur.com/a/VymWfh6
While I can understand why the porting team included new material, the additional Side Jobs are unpolished and don't really fit in with the original jobs. At the very least, there are a few amusing things about them. Heroes' Paradise is far from an ideal version of NMH1, but its differences and additions are "interesting," if nothing else.
