Achieving optimal weight is a central focus of care for persons who have cystic fibrosis. Over the years the emphasis has been on promoting weight gain. The CF community is now experiencing a new challenge, addressing the concern that some people are gaining excessive weight.
This leads to the questions: How best can we guide healthy nutrition from diagnosis and throughout life? What role does exercise play in promoting a healthy weight, and how should we be incorporating this in our CF care recommendations? How does one address the topic of excessive weight gain? How do CFTR modulators contribute to weight gain, and how should we counsel patients with regards to this?
Speakers for this session will discuss the pathophysiology of weight gain as well as the prevention and treatment of excessive weight gain.
