The British High Street – have we lost our cultural identity?
Once filled with names like Woolworths, BHS and C&A, our towns and cities are now dominated by boarded-up shops, vape stores, endless Turkish barbers, massage parlours, and EU convenience shops. The face of the High Street has changed forever… but instead of moaning about the decline, I decided to have a bit of fun with it.
Welcome to High Street Bingo – a tongue-in-cheek game where spotting the “modern staples” of today’s High Street earns you a tick on the card. Get a line and it’s a win. Get a full house… well, that’s a story in itself.
Join me on a walk through Scarborough as I ask: what have we lost, what have we gained, and can we still find something to celebrate on our changing High Streets?
