The AD-S2sx is a points decoder for model railways made by DCC Concepts, an Australian firm which has a UK distributor in Settle North Yorkshire. The AD-S8xs is the exactly the same, but with provision for up to 8 points (or 16 if used as crossovers) This accessories decoder has advantages over other makes - it can be used on DC as well as DCC layouts. Unlike other accessories decoders the AD-S2sx does not need to be programmed before you can use it - you only have to move the switch to the SET position and access the DCC address you intend to use for the point, and when you move the slider to the RUN position, the AD-S2sx will remember the DCC address you used and that's all there is to it!
This accessories decoder should be sited somewhere where the power on light is visible and the discharge button can easily be pressed. Don't put the AD-S2sx underneath the baseboard where you cannot see it!
The beauty of this device compared to the Hornby one is that you can connect a standard points switch which gives you the option of changing the points via automation, for example using an elink, or conventionally using a switch.
Another useful feature is the connection for two LEDs which will show the last way the point was thrown either by DCC or switch on your layout panel. If you require your control panel to show the actual position of the point when it is set by hand, you will PECO PL-15 and a separate circuit instead.
Please do not use telephone wire to connect the AD-S2x to the solenoids! You may use telephone wire to connect the LEDs and the Switches however, since these do not have heavy power requirements.
Do not confuse the AD-S2sx and AD-S8sx (for solenoids) with AD-2 fx and AD-8fx Cobalt-type stall motor decoder. They look very similar and have identical packaging. Be careful not to order the Cobalt version by mistake!
