Anna Frants recollects:
“I was once walking down a street in New York. It was quite windy. Apparently, during a renovation, somebody threw cooling fans out, and they were sitting in a row by the fence. There happened to be a gust of wind, which put into spinning one of the fans whose propeller was set at some special angle. Driven by this propeller, the other fans also “came to life”. This made a deep impression on me, and I decided to create a project named “Dissident”. This project is dedicated to my late father who was exiled from the USSR. He was a dissident.
Father left the Soviet Union in 1975, when the KGB “kindly” offered him the choice between an exile and “get the hell out of here, we don’t need people like you”.
43 years later, it is windy in New York. During a renovation, somebody threw cooling fans out, and they were sitting in a row by the fence. A gust of wind spun one of the fans whose propeller was under a special angle. Driven by this propeller, the other fans also “came to life”.
Father died in 2017, having worked for over 25 years for the Voice of America.”
