Fact and Faith Series 5
Hi friends,
Welcome to the fact and faith series based on compassion. Today's fact is about the world's largest land animal, the elephants.
Elephants weigh between 3000 and 7000 kgs. And they spend upto 18 hours eating every single day.
Elephants have the most sensitive organ found in any mammal and it is the most versatile tool too. It is the trunk.
Elephants use their trunks for breathing, smelling, touching, grasping and even for communicating.
Elephants can pick up things as small as a tiny leaf. They can carry heavy objects too.
They also use their trunks to suck up water to drink. It can contain up to 8 litres of water.
Above all, elephants are extremely emotional creatures. They can share their joys, sorrows and can show great amount of compassion towards others even to different species.
They perform greeting ceremonies when a friend returns back to the herd after been away for some time. They hug by wrapping their trunks together.
When an elephant is distressed, other elephants react to the distress by acting exactly the same way. They stand beside their friend and touch the distressed elephant with their trunks to provide comfort. They also grieve for the lost family members.
Friends, elephants teach us to spend more time to taste our good God and to meditate on the bread of life.
As Elephants demonstrate a greater degree of emotional contagion, lets remind ourselves to stand beside the suffering. This is the need of the hour.
As Romans 12:15 says:
"Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep."
Lets be inspired and equipped by God to stand beside the suffering.
Lets be Christ in action throughout this week.
Bye friends!
