“Refreshment on the Job” is a mid-century Coca-Cola sponsored film produced by Jim Handy Organization — one of the most prolific creators of American industrial and educational films from the 1930s through the 1960s.
This film wasn’t aimed at consumers. It was aimed at employers.
During the 1950s, Coca-Cola positioned itself as a workplace benefit, encouraging companies to stock break rooms, factories, and job sites with Coke as a way to support morale, productivity, and routine on the job.
At the time, a bottle still cost just 5 cents — a price Coca-Cola famously held for decades. The tone here is deliberate and reassuring, typical of Jim Handy productions designed to educate, persuade, and normalize corporate practices.
Watch the pacing.
Listen to the language.
Notice who’s being spoken to.
