Magnitude by VirtualityPlayz has been in the works for a long time, and after Virtual seemingly disappeared, he came back to finish this level. Since then, he has improved a lot, and I think his upcoming projects will be absolutely insane. He even helped make prologues for me. Do I think Magnitude is rate-worthy? Absolutely, this level is much better than all of the other featured slop in the game. It has a lot of passion to it, including an entire prologue and ending sequence, which is really impressive. However, I don't see it higher than a feature for the following reasons.
It is evident that the level is dated and not the most polished. For example, you can see the TV screen clipping through the blocks at 0:12, the boss clip through at 1:01, and some random blocks are left at the end at 2:04. In terms of random visual errors, there are the indicators in the ceiling at 1:01, which I really don't know what is going on there. Its also clear onwards from 1:05 that the level felt rushed due to the amount of copy and paste block designs and barren background.
There are still many visuals in the level that I liked, for example, I think the intro sequence and build up to the first boss fight was creative and created a lot of tension for whats about to come. I also thought the UI was a nice addition, and it also gives the player a little bit more about the lore. I also thought some of the main body boss movement and effects were visually appealing and smooth.
Now a major rate factor is the object count, sitting at 72k. This is about average for a level this size, but the level does not have an ldm (around 158 objects are marked ldm). This is a major downside of the level and could prevent it from getting rated.
Now, the biggest complaint I have about this level is the gameplay. Some parts are inconsistent, weird, or skippable. I'll try to document all the weird experiences I had with the gp here:
0:03 Dash orb skippable and you can still do the next part in a UFO.
0:04 The first mini jump in the robot feels awkward because its behind foreground as the camera is moving.
0:13 Sudden transition makes the next jump unexpected. This part is also noticably easier than all the other parts
0:16 the blocks and the subbg blend a little too much, and I initially thought the waste barrel had collision.
0:26 the last ufo jump of the sequence is weirdly timed to avoid hitting your head on the saw.
0:27 Sudden transition to the ship is awkward because there is an invisible platform under you, so you tend to tap once and die because the invisible floor is unexpected.
0:40 The first attack of the boss is completely obstructed, so you have to pray to not go too far up or down.
0:41 the first yellow portal is skippable.
0:43 the sequence going down into the yellow up and back up is awkward primarily because there is an invisible wall coming back up, so you might hit it and cancel momentum, sending you down into the other attack
0:46 the correction teleport forces you to tap much earlier than you think when coming down into the yellow orb
0:47 the teleport orb is not visible until after the flashbang, and even then theres not much reaction time.
0:53 the indicator for this attack is pretty vague and can be difficult to understand at first because the drone shoots the floor and you have to somehow get through
1:15 I dont like the visible teleport portals
1:19 You can just skip this entire sequence
1:21 The ufo inputs are kinda lackluster, like you only tap a few times and you can just entirely skip the mini
1:24 horrendous wave to ship transition that led to mines with very unclear explosion hitboxes. You could easily die here if you arent careful with the transition.
So yeah, all of those factors are why I don't think it would be rated higher than feature, but maybe it could, given a few simple updates and an ldm.
