Be Reliable. Make sure to produce high quality work in your first few weeks, first impressions are very important. Have someone double check your work the first couple times you do something. Also be responsive. Even if you don't know the answer to a question, respond that you will look into it and let them know when you will give them an update. Then follow through. Following through by doing what you say you are going to do is how you build trust. Double and triple check contacts, grammar, and attachments before sending emails.

Be Proactive. Once you understand the company and have built a solid reputation, it's time to begin truly adding value and improving processes. Find new and better ways to present information, and think of new initiatives that could help the team. When you have to go to your manager about a problem, make sure you are also able to suggest a solution, or an approach for figuring out how to solve the problem. This initiative and problem solving ability will indicate you have the potential to take on more responsibility in the future.
