শিয়াল ও আঙুর ফল:
তিন দিন ধরে অনবরত বৃষ্টি হওয়ার কারণে একটি শিয়াল খাবারের খোঁজে কোথাও বেরোতে পারেনি। খিদের জ্বালায় থাকতে না পেরে শিয়ালটি বনের মধ্যে খাবারের সন্ধানে ঘুরতে লাগল ।
হঠাৎ একটি ঝোপের দিকে তার নজর পড়ল।সে দেখল ঝোপের পাশে একটি আঙুরগাছ এবং অনেক পাকা আঙুরের থোকা ঝুলছে সেখানে। খিদের জ্বালায় সেই আঙুর খেয়েই পেট ভরাবে বলে শেয়ালটি মনস্থির করল।

কিন্তু গাছের এত উপরে থাকা আঙুরের থোকা গুলির সে কীভাবে নাগাল পাবে সেই নিয়ে ভাবতে শুরু করল । কিন্তু শিয়ালটি তার কোনও উপায়ই বার করতে পারল না। অবশেষে বিফল মনোরথ হয়ে সে সেই স্থান পরিত্যাগ করল ।

ফেরার পথে সে বলতে লাগল -“আঙুর ফল টক; ওই আঙুর আমি খেতেও পারতাম না, খেলেও আমার পেট ভরত না”।

নীতিকথা ~ নিজের অযোগ্যতা ঢাকার জন্য পরনিন্দা করা অনুচিত।

The Fox and the Grapes:
For three days, it rained continuously, and a fox could not go out in search of food. Driven by unbearable hunger, the fox began wandering through the forest in search of something to eat.

Suddenly, its eyes fell on a bush. Beside the bush, there was a grapevine laden with bunches of ripe grapes. Overcome with hunger, the fox decided to satisfy its appetite by eating those grapes.

But the grapes were hanging too high on the vine, out of the fox's reach. The fox started pondering how to get to the grapes, but no matter what it tried, it couldn’t succeed. Frustrated and disappointed, the fox finally abandoned the spot.

While leaving, it muttered, “The grapes are sour anyway; I wouldn’t have been able to eat them even if I tried. Even if I ate them, they wouldn’t have filled my stomach.”

Moral: It is improper to criticize or blame others to mask one’s own shortcomings.
