CPR HEROES 2025 – Hannah Cooke & Polly the dog

Описание: Adam Cooke, a fit and healthy runner from Enniskillen, had a cardiac arrest in March 2024, aged 37. He was asleep in bed with his wife Hannah when she was woken by the barking of their golden retriever, Polly, barking downstairs in the kitchen, alerting her to Adam’s agonal breathing. Hannah had previously worked as a carer and instantly recognised that her husband was having a cardiac arrest.

She rang the emergency services and immediately rolled Adam off the bed and started CPR. Despite being completely terrified, Hannah managed to stay focused while speaking to the emergency call handler and perform CPR until the ambulance arrived 7 minutes later.

The paramedics continued CPR and used a defibrillator to shock Adam's heart into a safer rhythm. Adam was in hospital for a number of weeks undergoing investigations and had an ICD and pacemaker fitted.

Adam has thankfully made a full recovery and is incredibly indebted to Hannah for saving his life with her quick actions of starting CPR immediately and calling the ambulance, as well as their dog Polly for alerting her.
