MASTER COOKBOOK RECIPE #137 BEAR CLAWS
Ingredients:
Pepperidge Farm puff pastry sheets
(Each sheet makes 3 bear claws)
almond filling or almond paste
slivered almonds
1 egg white
large sugar crystals, optional
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Thaw and unfold the pastry, then cut along the folds to make three rectangles. Spoon 2-3 tablespoons of filling on one side. Dampen edges with egg white, fold over, and crimp all edges with a fork. Cut 1-inch slits every 3/4 inch along the crimped edge. Place pastries on a parchment-lined sheet, pull edges apart slightly, brush with egg white, and top with almonds and sugar crystals. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and risen. If using almond filling, refrigeration is not necessary.
Note: pastry sheets are usually found in the freezer near pie crusts and Cool Whip. Almond filling is
located near other pie fillings in the supermarket.
