In April 1945, three Soviet fronts converged on Berlin with 2.5 million soldiers, 6,000 tanks, and vast concentrations of artillery. Facing them: a garrison of a million men of wildly uneven quality, dug in behind rivers, canals, and hastily improvised barricades. What followed was one of the most complex urban operations in military history — a 16-day campaign shaped by rival marshals, political deadlines, and the unforgiving geometry of city fighting. The operational cost on both sides exceeded 200,000 casualties.
Welcome to @ww2.cauldron where we uncover the grit, logistics, and forgotten operations of the Eastern Front. We strip away the mythology to reveal the brutal arithmetic of World War II.
In this video, you'll see the Berlin operation through archive aerial footage, soldier diaries, and detailed floor plans of the Reichstag. You'll understand why the Seelow Heights cost 66,000 Soviet casualties in four days, how a zoo flak tower engaged IS-2 heavy tanks on the Moltke Bridge from several miles away, and why Stalin's May Day deadline turned a military operation into a race between Zhukov and Konev.
