Tulsa crews gear up for winter weather, deploying plows and pre-treating roads for safety

Описание: TULSA, OKLA. (KTUL) — Crews across Tulsa County and the City of Tulsa are taking proactive measures as winter weather looms.

Tulsa County Highway District crews have begun outfitting trucks with snowplows and sand spreaders, and pretreating bridges and known trouble spots to prevent icy patches.

"We’ll probably use about 4,000 gallons retreating the roads before this event," said Wes Condreay, highway superintendent. The county is prepared to work rotating shifts through the weekend to maintain road safety.

City of Tulsa street crews are also preparing, focusing on elevated surfaces like bridges and overpasses. They plan to apply brine as early as Thursday night and operate around the clock once the weather hits.

"We try to maintain at least one lane open on the anterior roadways going in each direction until the snow subsides," said a city official.

In McAlester, officials are readying for a significant winter event with 300 to 350 tons of salt and necessary equipment. They urge residents to exercise caution if travel is unavoidable.

The City of Tulsa is responsible for clearing over 1,760 lane miles, prioritizing bridges, expressways, hills, and roads near schools and hospitals.

More than 60 trucks, plows, and brine units are prepared to tackle the conditions. Officials remind drivers to slow down and maintain extra space between vehicles if winter weather arrives.
