I have learned through others, and observation, how to make scenery for my model trains. I’ve made scenery in Z, N, H0 and 00.
Am I the best at it? Nope. But what I can manage really helps bring the trains to life!
If you are reluctant to try your hand at scenery in any scale have a look at this video. The key difference between scales are how fine some of the materials should be. For instance, the sand blasting granite I’m using for my path area around the controller is what I use for track ballast in N and HO - but in those scales I finely screen the sand to get rid of chunky bits and debris.
The stone I am using for track ballast in this G scale video is perhaps a bit too chunky. However, the G scale track is already a bit over-chunky anyway. The point of this video is to show common materials and how easy scenery can be. You can choose whatever stuff works best for you.
My little LGB steeple cab electric looks so much better with scenery around it.
Cheers!
