Описание: Twenty-year-old Reem Firoz courageously breaks the silence surrounding mental health in immigrant families, confronting stigma, generational expectations, and the unspoken struggles many young people carry alone. Her talk calls for empathy, dialogue, and healing—transforming silence into understanding and strength. As a Psychology and Human Resource Management student at Rutgers University, currently on the pre-law track, with a deep passion for storytelling and social impact. Growing up in an Asian immigrant household, I witnessed how mental health was often ignored, misunderstood or treated with shame. Therapy was never seen as an option, only as something "others" needed. That silence stuck with me and now, I'm using my voice to break it. My TEDx is a reflection on what it means to grow up with invisible battles, and how therapy can be a bridge toward healing not just individuals but entire families. I'm inviting people, especially those from immigrant backgrounds, to challenge the stigma and start normalizing therapy in their homes. I believe we don't have other carry pain in silence just because those before us did. Speaking up is hard, but it's the first step toward making healing a shared legacy, not a hidden one. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
