This story was first reported by News 15 as breaking news on Thursday night. A 42-year-old man from Lafayette fell asleep with a lit cigarette, which then caused a chain reaction fire and explosion. Fortunately, everyone escaped unharmed. A doorbell camera captured the dramatic moment when the man fled from his burning home just before the Lafayette Fire Department arrived. According to a spokesman, the fire began in a bedroom when the cigarette fell onto flammable materials on the floor.
