Описание: The NYC Parks Department's Plant Ecology Center on Staten Island is dedicated to cultivating native plant species for the city's parks. Staff, including seed collector Patrick Over, spend fall and winter collecting, cleaning, and treating seeds. This year, the center distributed over 110,000 plants to 94 parks. They focus on preserving and increasing biodiversity, growing a wider variety of plants than commercial growers. Seeds are dried, processed, and stored in a seed bank. In the greenhouse, seeds undergo stratification to mimic winter conditions. Staff meticulously track data and look forward to spring when the plants are distributed across the city.
