Описание: Jeff Byrd is a beginning farmer renting 10 acres of land in Harnett County. The original land included open pasture with adjacent pine forest with pines ready to thin, established grass, a water source, and some fencing infrastructure. Grant funds were used to help provide additional fencing and water line infrastructure. NC Choices and N.C. Cooperative Extension provided technical expertise. Trees were thinned, site prepped, forage established, and cattle introduced during the three year life of the USDA Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Project. Jeff Byrd is also planting trees into open pasture to demonstrate both thinning and planting methods of silvopasture in Harnett County. N.C. Cooperative Extension, NC Choices, and Jeff Byrd are interested in using this site as an educational demonstration site for other silvopasture projects throughout the region.
