The graphic depicted India as a single, undivided territory, including the entire region of Jammu and Kashmir, without dotted lines or disclaimers marking disputed areas administered by Pakistan or China.
The United States has traditionally maintained formal neutrality on the Kashmir issue, often using dotted lines to reflect contested boundaries. The absence of such markers in this instance has therefore sparked discussion, even though there has been no official statement and no indication of a policy shift.
India maintains that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of the country, and past inaccuracies in US government maps have previously drawn formal objections from New Delhi.
