YThe Supreme Court of India on February 9, 2026, declined to interfere with a Madras High Court order regulating prayers at the Thirupparankundram Lord Murugan Subramaniya Swamy Temple in Tamil Nadu, calling it a “very balanced order.”
The High Court had prohibited animal sacrifice and barred the use of the name Sikkandar Malai for the Thirupparankundram Hill, while permitting Muslim devotees to offer prayers at the Nellithoppu area only during Ramzan and Bakrid, subject to strict conditions.
Hearing the plea, the bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and P.B. Varale noted that law-and-order considerations justified the restrictions and refused to intervene. The Court dismissed the petition without expressing any opinion on the broader issues involved.
Case Title: M. Imam Hussain v. The Secretary to Government and Ors.
